NTI for TMD and Bruxism

TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder) and bruxism (unconscious grinding and clenching) can be caused and exacerbated by many things; but stress, tension, and improper occlusion (bite) are the primary culprits. Migraines also often occur as a result of TMD and bruxism. Thankfully, there is a treatment for TMD and bruxism, and all it involves is simply wearing an appliance when you sleep.

For patients who suffer from TMD and/or bruxism, Dr. Dixson recommends the innovative NTI-tss (Nociceptive Trigeminal Inhibition-tension suppression system). The NTI-tss interrupts the involuntary struggle between the jaw and the temporal muscles, which reduces clenching intensity by one-third and eases the associated pain. The NTI-tss also allows the jaw muscles to relax and settle into a stable position allowing you and your sore muscles to rest.

This small acrylic appliance often eliminates bruxism-induced migraines and many cases of TMD pain. Every NTI-tss appliance is custom made and fits each individual’s unique bite and features a snap-in fit to keep it secure during the night.
